As some of you may know we have been in maintenance mode for quite some time now – about six months as of October. I’d like to say I’ve been working on a bigger, better Fantasy Bullpen, but I can’t; during this time little actual “maintenance” has gone down. Instead, myself and those select few involved in the production of this site have been trying to decide what direction we want to go in next. As proud as I am of the work done on this site over the past several years, our format wasn’t working, our content was not consistent, and we were trying to fit into a niche that was already full.

I like having a place to write about baseball though. I think I can contribute something on occasion. That’s why this site is still here. That’s why we’re re-launching. That’s why I’m willing to make the changes that must be made for this site to succeed.

This look is actually a bit retro – we used this site from June of 2008 until sometime in early 2009. It’s not here to stay, but it will make the transition easier. A lot of work went into the building and maintenance of the site as it was for the past couple of years, and because of that it is painful to see it gone. But it just wasn’t what we needed. This can’t be a news magazine. We can’t compete with Fangraphs or Baseball Prospectus. We can’t keep you informed with a staff of two or three at our best. What we can do – what I can do – is try to write something that is occasionally helpful or funny or interesting or just worthwhile for a baseball fan.

So what will we write about? Anything and everything related to baseball. Fantasy baseball will of course continue to be a major topic… but so will baseball history, sabermetrics, prospecting, and my Yankees. Whatever I find interesting – or at such times as we have other writers, whatever they find interesting – is what you’ll see here. Consistency can be oppressive. We can write or we can write well. I’ve chosen the latter.

As to the long term future of this site… we will see. There are formats worth exploring. The fantasy sports industry, the fantasy baseball industry in particular, is far from static, far from fully shaped. But what we were doing wasn’t working. So we’ll try something else. If you’ve liked what you’ve seen on this site in the past, I hope to earn you back as a reader. If not, maybe you can give this site another shot.
